Presented during the 2026 Fiduciary Law Institute, the award recognizes a distinguished career of outstanding, unselfish, and dedicated service to the Fiduciary Law Section, its members, and the citizens of Georgia.
The recognition came as a complete surprise to Adam and was made even more memorable when his wife unexpectedly joined him at the presentation to celebrate the occasion. The moment reflected not only the significance of the award, but also the respect he has earned throughout Georgia’s fiduciary law community.
A Rare Honor
Established in 2000, the Verner F. Chaffin Career Service Award is one of the Fiduciary Law Section’s highest honors. Unlike many professional awards, it is not presented annually. Instead, it is reserved for attorneys whose lasting contributions have strengthened the Fiduciary Law Section, the legal profession, and the citizens of Georgia.
Its rarity underscores its significance. In the 26 years since the award was established, only 13 attorneys have received the distinction, with the most recent recipient honored in 2023. The award celebrates not only professional achievement, but also leadership, mentorship, and a lasting commitment to advancing fiduciary law throughout Georgia.
A Lasting Impact on the Profession
For more than four decades, Adam has represented individuals, executors, trustees, investors, shareholders, and financial institutions in complex fiduciary litigation involving wills, trusts, estates, guardianships, businesses, and securities. As a founding partner of Gaslowitz Frankel, he has earned the respect of clients and colleagues alike for his thoughtful approach to resolving challenging legal disputes.
Adam’s impact extends beyond the clients he represents. Throughout his career, he has remained actively involved in strengthening Georgia’s fiduciary law community through leadership, education, and service.
He previously served as chair of the Fiduciary Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, chaired the Section’s annual Basic Fiduciary Practice Institute, served on its Fiduciary Legislation Committee, and has frequently lectured on fiduciary law and estate litigation. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC), reflecting his longstanding commitment to advancing the profession.
That same collaborative mindset has guided his work with clients and fellow professionals throughout his career. As Adam explained during a previous interview: “We try and encourage it to come up more often, have someone who litigates these issues come in and just help stress test this estate plan, tell us what we haven’t thought about.”
