As Gaslowitz Frankel continues our charitable giving program to celebrate the firm’s 25th anniversary, receptionist BreAna has chosen the Street Smart Youth Project for her donation.
When I asked BreAna to discuss the reasons behind choosing her non-profit, she shared this story.
Donating to my charity was a pivotal moment for me. It was an amazing feeling to be able to assist in uplifting our youth in a fight to keep them busy, active, and off of the streets.
The city of Atlanta is experiencing increased crime statistics and record numbers of individuals facing homelessness and poverty. This often results in individuals turning to crime and drugs in order to make a living, negatively impacting the community and sending bad messages to our youth.
With our charitable giving program, I wanted to find an organization that works to eliminate crime, uplift underprivileged youth, and spread awareness of the available services and opportunity. In researching the charity of my choice for the program, my main goal was to find a small organization dedicated to these issues.
Having been raised in an urban setting, I am all too aware of the impacts poverty can have on city youth. I also recognize that many individuals shy away from participating in low-income neighborhoods due to areas’ reputations. However, we are all connected. In order to fight poverty and crime, we must begin with uplifting the communities most affected. We must begin with uplifting our future – our youth.
Street Smart Youth Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating the inner-city community on the opportunities available to help people excel with education, participate in extra-curricular activities, and become aware of programs targeted at keeping youth off the streets.
Every child deserves the opportunity to reach for the stars, no matter which neighborhood he or she was raised in.
In this video, the Executive Director of Street Smart Youth Project explains the impact our $500 contribution will have on the organization.
Since all of their programs are free to the children of the neighborhood, organizations such as this count on charitable donations for their programs, including field trips, activities, and mentoring.
It was an amazing experience to make a difference for the Street Smart Youth Project, contributing to help their battle against poverty and crime. With this opportunity, I was reminded that no matter what walk of life you come from, we are all one. We all have the power to make a change in our world. It was a rewarding experience meeting a wonderful group of people dedicated to making our community a safer place, one day at a time.
